The “Promoting Eco-sanitation and Water Services in People’s Settlements in Kibera and Mukuru” project was a 3-year partnership venture between Umande Trust and WimmaLikkuta, both civil society organizations based in Kenya and Finland respectively. This partnership’s overall objective was to improve access of urban communities and school children to safe, adequate, and affordable water & bio-sanitation services, thus improving the quality of life in Kibera and Mukuru. In addition, the project included hygiene awareness campaigns that aimed to establish good hygiene practices in the communities. This project not only improved access, but also built the capacity of community-based organizations to design, plan, construct, manage, and market ecological sanitation services.
