This project, which is being implemented by Umande, serves to support women who live in informal settlements and are interested in public leadership. It focuses on increasing the number of women leaders in various political and social leadership positions and on increasing women’s voices and visibility. Women interested in public leadership are linked to other women’s political movements and already established women leaders for mentorship and grooming. This project focuses on twelve wards within four informal settlements in Nairobi: Kibera, Mukuru, Mathere, and Korogocho. The women who are participating in this project will increase their capacity in leadership, entrepreneurial skills, and environmental matters in Nairobi, and are given mentorship, fellowship, and support from each other, other women leaders, and various institutions that have partnered with Umande for this project.
