What We Do

Umande Trust provides sanitation and energy in some of the most impoverished areas in the world. By constructing centres for sanitation, energy provision and community bonding in neighbourhoods where access to these fundamental human needs is limited, we aim to create durable facilities through community engagement.

Through collaboration with locals facilities are tailored to the specific wishes of the community to improve acceptance in these strong societies. By working according to principles of inclusion, engagement, neutrality and development we ensure basic needs are met now and in the future.

From being urban-based, Umande Trust is now a national organization with head office in Nairobi, Kibra sub-county, a regional office in Western Kenya (Kisumu Office) which focus on Policy influencing, advocacy initiatives, social enterprises, Community led total sanitation approaches to address sanitation, ward level planning and climate change. The presence of the different offices enhances access to different parts of the country, both rural and urban and opens up opportunities for enterprise. Nairobi region co-ordniates projects in the urban informal settlements (Mathare, Korogocho, Kibera, Mukuru, Kibagare and Kawangware) and in schools located in different counties; Murang’a, Machakos, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Kajiado and Kirinyaga counties. The Kisumu region also co-ordinates projects in Homabay, Busia (market area) and urban informal settlements in Kisumu (Obunga, Bandani, Nyalenda, Manyatta, Kibuye market).
